The Infinite Sausage Machine is a nod to the interaction between industry and crafts. The machine squeezes a uniform product on a conveyor belt. A person is needed to manage the input and output.
Infinite sausage is a never-ending dish for which the chef and ingredients are interchangeable. The installation contains a machine that processes the input – ingredients, but also complete dishes – and extrudes the ‘sausage’ on a conveyor belt. The machine is only capable of processing, and thus, a human being is needed to compose the input, and distribute the output in individual portions.
The output of the Infinite Sausage Machine is a timeline in itself. The shape does not change, but the content does. Although it is difficult to influence the shape of the sausage, by distributing the portions there is a possibility to influence the composition.
This installation was designed for the exposition EAT SHIT during the Salone Del Mobile 2015 in Milan, with the theme ‘digestion’. Pictures by Angeline Swinkels (www.angelineswinkels.nl), EAT SHIT by Design Academy Eindhoven/curator Marije Vogelzang. The Infinite Sausage Machine was made possible by ‘Stimuleringsfonds voor de Creatieve Industrie’. The machines were manufactured by Goof van Beek.
